About Thermography
1. What is thermography?
An imaging method that uses an infrared camera to record heat patterns on the skin’s surface.
2. Is it safe? Does it use radiation?
There’s no radiation and no compression, and the camera doesn’t touch you.
3. Does thermography replace a mammogram?
No. Thermography is an adjunct and doesn’t replace mammography or any exam your healthcare provider recommends. Keep following your provider’s screening advice.
4. Can thermography diagnose a condition?
No. Thermography doesn’t diagnose a condition. If your report suggests follow-up, talk with your healthcare provider.
5. Why does breast thermography start with two scans?
The baseline is two scans three months apart, so future images can be compared with your own pattern. Annual scans follow.
